The artist, Roy Koerner, who prefers to be known as "Bananaboy," discovered this fun and unique medium quite by accident... in his lunch bag! On day, after eating a banana, he pinned the peel to his office wall (artists never throw anything away). A few days later, he observed a unique transformation. While drying, the peel's form changed, seeking its own shape and color. Its linear, almost primitive, quality immediately struck the artist; and "Banana Art" was born! He began to imagine all kinds of images, and to sculpt them from the banana peel. His passion comes from knowing that he creates a unique kind of beauty in a manner never before tried. Some may say that taking an object that has been tossed aside as refuse to bio-degrade, and giving it new life and purpose, perhaps borders on genius. Or, is it simply man doing his level best to keep from going insane.

Banana Art has been sold in Sacramento, California, as well as in Chicago, to organizations and private parties. The artist will consider requests for commissioned work.
